My neighborhood ~PhotoADay

27 meal

Sometimes my meals are completely inspired by what’s in the garden. This is spinach parsley pesto with pine nuts and walnuts on cooked cabbage and carrots, edamame, fresh radish slices and Cabot cheddar cheese.

25 my neighborhood

This year playoff hockey has been so much fun, all of my favorite players were on teams that made playoffs so I was sorta cheering for both teams, well really just mostly cheering for #26 in the blue shirt.

This is my new favorite way to eat mangos.

To make this Pico de Gallo you’ll need a mango, an avocado, a handful of parsley and cilantro if you have it,a few slices of red onion and  juice of a lemon.

Then you chop everything up.

Add lemon juice and mix together.

It’s that easy to make!

I heard cows

1/400 sec   f/3.5   ISO 100

I heard cows out in the back meadow this morning.

1/3200 sec   f/1.8   ISO 100

So I went to see how many were there. But by the time I’d squizzled under the fence and got my hair caught on the barbed wire and got it un caught they were gone!

1/125 sec   f/3.5   ISO 100

So here’s what I did see on my way back:

1/125 sec   f/3.5   ISO 100

I don’t know what these red things are called.

1/400 sec   f/3.5   ISO 100

The small of the honey suckle is one of the best parts about springtime around here!

1/80 sec   f/1.8   ISO 100

more honey suckle.

1/60 sec   f/5.0   ISO 100

1/200 sec   f/5.0   ISO 100

1/400 sec   f/3.5   ISO 100

And I’m not sure if this is crown vetch or regular vetch or a cross between them.

Red Cabbage Tofu Smoothie

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19473

This isn’t a smoothie, this is a frozen desert! Easiest way to eat red cabbage ever.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19462

I’m not a fan of raw cabbage so I had some reservations about this recipe from ThepioneerWoman but her photos were so good looking I had to give it a try.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19464

I used tofu instead of yogurt. Not because I have anything against yogurt but because I had an open container of tofu.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19467

Chop up the cabbage a little  before tossing into the blender.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19468

Cut the strawberries into pieces if you’re using frozen.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19470

Spoon in about 1/4 cup honey.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19471

Toss it all in the blender and blend it all up until it’s all creamy.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19472

Then serve yourself some.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19477

and see how it tastes.

red cabbage tofu smoothie-19480

From Where I walk ~PhotoADay

bridge building-19395

I brought my camera with me along with the PhotoADay list thinking I’d get caught up on some of the daily prompts I’ve missed.

Then I got distracted when I saw the bridge job. So I stopped to check on the bridge progress.

They had a yellow metal basket filled with rocks/crushed rock/grout or something being pushed over to the crane and pile drilling rig on the green floating raft in the middle of the water.

bridge building-19397

The crane reached down to pick it up.

The white hard hat and yellow vest hooked the cable

up up it went.

And set it down next to the pile drill rig.

Then the drill came up with the spiral bit on

bridge building-19415

swung over behind himself rotated it forward, backward

bridge building-19420

and when he swung back around he had a different drill bit on.

bridge building-19422

Back down into the hole it went.

bridge building-19423

back up. For what? I don’t know, I was way over on the sidewalk on the shore.

bridge building-19428

The white hard hats and yellow vests sat down, they talked on their phones. And watched it drill as the moon came out.

bridge building-19430

It got dark quickly and I realized these guys were probably going to work straight through the night so I headed home.

Here’s the video I took. Please excuse that wiggling. I didn’t realize how much wiggling I do in under 2 minutes!
